Explore what we offer
Manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) is a specialized massage technique designed to stimulate the flow of lymph fluid throughout the body. This gentle and rhythmic technique targets the lymphatic system, promoting the removal of toxins, excess fluids, and waste products. MLD can help reduce swelling, improve circulation, and support immune function. It is often used in post-surgery recovery, treatment for lymphedema, and various wellness applications, providing a soothing experience while enhancing overall health and vitality.
Manual Lymphatic Drainage
MLD for post surgery recovery
For those recovering from surgery, MLD can be particularly beneficial in enhancing the healing process.
Benefits:
Reduces Swelling: Post-surgical swelling is a common issue. MLD helps to reduce this by encouraging lymph fluid to move away from the surgical site and towards lymph nodes, where it can be processed and eliminated.
Minimizes Bruising: By enhancing circulation and promoting fluid drainage, MLD can reduce the appearance and severity of bruising that often accompanies surgical procedures.
Enhances Healing: Improved lymph flow contributes to better oxygenation and nutrient delivery to tissues, which can speed up the overall healing process.
Relieves Pain and Discomfort: Gentle manipulation of tissues helps to alleviate pain associated with surgery, providing a comforting experience during recovery.
Supports Immune Function: A healthy lymphatic system plays a crucial role in immune response. By stimulating lymphatic function, MLD helps to bolster the body's defenses during recovery.
Recommended Timing and Frequency:
Post-Surgery Timing: It's generally advisable to wait until your doctor has cleared you for massage therapy, often within a few days to a couple of weeks, depending on the type of surgery.
Frequency: For optimal results, sessions can be scheduled 1 to 3 times per week, depending on individual needs and the extent of surgery.
Considerations:
Always consult with your healthcare provider or surgeon before starting MLD to ensure it aligns with your recovery plan.
Seek out a certified MLD therapist who understands the nuances of post-surgical care for the safest and most effective experience.
Incorporating manual lymphatic drainage into your post-surgery routine can be a wonderful way to enhance recovery, reduce discomfort, and support your body’s natural healing processes.
